What causes acne?
Acne occurs when the skin’s sebaceous glands produce too much sebaceous oil, causing the hair follicles on the face, chest, or back to become clogged. A clogged pore presents itself as a whitehead if it is underneath the skin and a blackhead if it is exposed to the air on the surface of the skin. As the follicle becomes more and more clogged, the pore expands and causes a red bump called a pimple. If the clog causes the pore’s structure to rupture, inflammations called pustules and papules form. If the inflammation reaches deep enough underneath the skin’s surface, it can cause a cyst.

Acne Treatment in West Palm Beach, FL
Acne treatment depends on the severity and location of the acne. In mild cases, regular use of over-the-counter cleansing products and simple lifestyle changes like drinking more water can help minimize the appearance of acne. In more severe cases, your dermatologist may prescribe prescription-strength cleansers and medications to apply to your skin. Extraction of white and blackheads can also help improve your skin’s appearance. Your dermatologist can help you determine the best way for you to get rid of your acne for good.

Preventing Acne
Acne prevention begins with keeping your face clean and moisturized. Exfoliating regularly helps remove dead skin cells which could potentially clog follicles and result in acne. Avoid touching your face with your hands and always wear a sun block with at least 30 SPF on your face to avoid sun damage. Additionally, regular exercise, a healthy diet, and reducing the amount of stress in your life can help keep acne away. Regular visits with your dermatologist keep your skin healthy, clean, and beautiful.
